Matakana Village Shops

Matakana is a delightful village with a surprising array of shops to keep shopaholics satisfied. From the wonderful Nosh delicatessen and butchers to the unique and special gift shops, the bookshop, art galleries, shoes and clothes shops not to mention the patisserie where you can indulge your waistline. Enjoy a coffee at the patisserie or the Black Dog cafe, taste some beautiful organic blueberry ice cream or sorbets from Blue or indulge in one of the Rusty Pelican’s stupendous pizzas! There is something for every member of the family from the toys at ‘Cream of Matakana’ to the specialist local wines sold in The Vintry.

Every Saturday there is of course the famous Farmers Market where all the local producers come together to offer a wonderful array of locally grown and produced produce. Stock up for the weekend with local fruits and vegetables, wine, cheeses and much more all the while enjoying local entertainment while you shop. People come from far and wide to shop at the market so do be prepared for traffic coming into the village from Warkworth on Saturday mornings.

As well as the Farmers Market in the main village you must also make time to visit the market held at RD6 the local cafe/restaurant/art gallery along the main road at the roundabout where Takatu Rd meets Omaha Flats Rd. Here you can indulge in food and drink at the little cafe, browse the market stalls, the craft co-operative and the extensive art gallery which often exhibits well known local and national artists.
